Shaw,a well known and highly respected lady residing north of Hedrick, died very suddenly of heart trouble while attending Sunday school at the Hedrick Christian church Sunday morning. Mrs. Shaw had not been complaining and had apparently been in her usual health, and her untimely demise proved a shock to the entire community. She was taken to the home of her sister, Mrs. Charles Scott, on West Second street, and later to her home, and the funeral was held at the Christian church conducted by Rev. J. S. Nichols. Mrs. Shaw had not been complaining and had apparently been in her usual health, and her untimely demise proved a shock to the entire community. Interment was made at the Abel cemetery. Lydia, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Akerman, was born in Keokuk county March 21 1859, hence was 57 years and 25 days of age. She was married to N. W. Shaw December 14, 1882 and to this union were born five children, two sons and three daughters, one of whom died in infancy. The surviving children are George A. Shaw, Sylvia Reynolds, Grace Millikin and Lacey Shaw, all of Hedrick. She is also survived by her devoted husband, three brothers and three sisters, G. W. Akerman of Sigourney; Mrs. Charles Scott and Lily Broadhead of Hedrick; Phil Akerman of Highland Center; David Akerman of Farmington and Lettie Campbell of Pasadena, California. Just for one to know Mrs. Shaw was to have the utmost respect for her as she always greeted everyone with a kindly word and a smile. As a loving mother her heart was ever set on striving to see her children's welfare, both before and after starting out to make homes for themselves. As a devoted Christian, she was a model. She never missed a service of the church when it was possible for her to be present, and she passed away at her post of duty in the Sunday school class of which she was a member. Death came at 10:40 a.m. A really good woman has gone from us, of whom it may be said as it was of another in the earliest days of Christianity and by the greatest of Teachers earth ever knew or shall know "she hath done what she could" [Date of death, April 16, 1916; submitted by Eileen Kasal Kozman] Groom's Name: Newton W.
