Osceola Sentinel Mrs. Lydia Doss Lydia Ann Hubbard was born in Bethel, Wayne county, Indiana, January 27, 1840 [to Silas Hubbard and Elizabeth "Betsey" Anderson], and died at her late home in Osceola, Iowa, July 9, 1915, being 75 years, 6 months and 4 days of age. She was married to G.R.E. [Galen] Doss in the state of Missouri, in 1855. This union was blessed with twelve children, four girls and eight boys, all of whom with the father have preceeded her in death but four. The living are Mrs. Libbie Jackson, D.W. and Fred of Osceola and Mrs. Genevive Adams of Boston, Mass. Deceased also leaves one sister, Mrs. N.E. Wiley of Osceola, one brother and four sisters having preceeded her to their eternal home. Mrs. Doss united with the Christian church about fifty years ago, and when we think of her life as a mother, wife, sister and neighbor we can truthfully say "she has done what she could." It has been said by those who knew "That no better mother or neighbor ever lived." She has toiled continually for the welfare of others. Her last words were "Kiss me Fred", thinking of her boy as she used to when he was a little child. Truly this worthy life will be missed. Funeral services were held from the Christian church at 2:30 Sunday afternoon, July 11th, conducted by her pastor, Rev. W.C. Cole. Interment was made in the Maple Hill cemetery.
