Hiatt daughter of Lewis and Rachel Hiatt, was born in Appanoose County, Iowa, Dec. 13th, 1849 and passed away at her home in Moravia, March 19, 1935 at the age of 85 years, 3 months and 6 days. She was preceded in death by her father, mother, four brothers and four sisters. One sister, Mrs. H. C. Cate of Moravia is the only one left of this large family. Hiatt daughter of Lewis and Rachel Hiatt, was born in Appanoose County, Iowa, Dec. 13th, 1849 and passed away at her home in Moravia, March 19, 1935 at the age of 85 years, 3 months and 6 days. She was preceded in death by her father, mother, four brothers and four sisters. One sister, Mrs. H. C. Cate of Moravia is the only one left of this large family. The brothers who have preceded her in death are; an infant, Alfred W., Orren, Preston Hiatt and the sisters, Mary Jane and Martha Hiatt, Mrs. J. WL. Williams and Mrs. H. M. Andrews. The death of Aunt Lydia, as she was familiarly known, brings to a close a life of usefulness and service, to her parents and others. After the other children were all married and in homes of their own, she was with her parents as a help and comfort. She and her mother stayed on the farm until the passing of the mother in 1908, after which she soon moved to Moravia where she resided until death. It can fittingly be said of her "she has done what she could". She was a member of the Methodist church from her youth and always attended the church services as long as health would permit. She was of a disposition to never complain of her lot and only a few days before her death talked with her loves ones how she would soon be at rest, and prayed to be taken home. That prayer has been answered. The Christ whom she loved and served so faithfully came to her home. We are constrained to say with the poet: "Life's work well done, life's race well run, life's crown well won, now comes rest". Funeral services were conducted from the M. E. Church in Moravia, Thursday afternoon, March 21, at 2 o'clock, Rev. J. C. Behrens officiating.
