Mrs. Hopp, who was 91 years old, died in Odessa on June 18, 1992, after a lengthy illness. She was born in Bickleton, WA, on May 15, 1901, the daughter of Conrad and Anna Margarte (Goetz) Eckhardt. Her parents had migrated to the US in 1881 from the Volga region of Russia. They lived first in Nebraska and then moved to Bickleton, where they operated a wheat farm. Lydia was the sixth of seven daughters. Three brothers died in infancy. The family moved from Bickleton to Walla Walla, where they lived briefly when Lydia was about 5 years old. They returned to the Bickleton farm for a time, but wishing to be nearer to relatives, her parents sold the property there and moved to another farm about seven miles east of Odessa in 1908. Lydia walked 2 ½ miles to a one-room country school and with her sisters helped with much of the farm work. She married Henry Hopp, of Odessa, in 1927. He became a prominent building contractor and developer. Mrs. Hopp was the business manager and accountant of their firm, which was general contractor for residential and commercial building projects throughout the Inland Northwest. One of the Hopp's notable achievements was Hopp's Addition to the Town of Odessa, a 2 ½ square-block section which included several modern homes and was annexed to the town. Among the residences in this neighborhood was the house which had been the parsonage of a church near Packard which Lydia had attended as a young girl. It was remodeled into a comfortable dwelling and became the Hopp family home... Due to illness, Mrs. Hopp was a resident of Odessa Convalescent Center recently, although on occasion she had been able to visit at home and with friends and relatives. She is survived by her husband, Henry Hopp, at the home; two sons, L Richard Hopp, of Spokane, and Paul Hopp, of Odessa; three daughters, Barbara Miller of Chewelah, Norma Kuch of Marlin, and Yvonne Hille of Ritzville; a sister, Clara Kissler, of Odessa; 17 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. The Rev Glenn Gettinger officiated at the funeral services... Interment was in Odessa Cemetery. Strate Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. ******** scrapbook obit Service for Lydia Hopp, 91, is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday at the Heritage United Church of Christ Sanctuary followed by burial at the Odessa (WA) Cemetery. Strate Funeral Home in Davenport, WA is in charge of arrangements. Mrs Hopp, who died Thursday, was born in Bickelton, WA. She moved to Odessa many years ago and was a member of Heritage United Church of Christ, the Ladies Aide and the Odessa Bowling Assn. Survivors include her husband of 69 years, Henry Hopp at the home; two sons, L Richard Hopp of Spokane and Paul Hopp of Odessa; three daughters, Barbara Miller of Chewelah, WA, Norma Kuch of Marlin, WA, and Yvonne Hille of Ritzville; a sister, Clara Kissler of Odessa; 17 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.
