Funeral services were Saturday, July 24, 2010 at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church with Reverend Keith Petersen officiating. Interment was in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Watertown, SD. Klemm was born on February 28, 1928 to Henry and Augusta (Zoellner) Klemm at home in Clear Lake, South Dakota. He was baptized at the Zion Lutheran Church in Deuel County, Hidewood Township and confirmed at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Clear Lake. Lyell attended public school at Clear Lake. In 1944 he moved to a farm south of Strandburg, South Dakota, where he farmed with his parents until the fall of 1957 when he and his mother moved back to Clear Lake. He went to work for the Deuel County Farmers Union Oil Co. (now Cenex). He served in the U.S. Army from 1951 and 1952 in the 1st Armored Division during the Korean Conflict at Ft. Hood, Texas. He was an E-5 Sgt. with the 153rd Engineer Battalion of the South Dakota National Guard from 1964-1965. Lyell married Verna (Chilsen) Bunde on March 10, 1967 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and the couple made their home in Clear Lake. Verna Klemm passed away on January 28, 1968. On August 15, 1969 he married Doris (Landmark) Ward in Watertown, South Dakota. Lyell retired from Deuel County Cenex in 1989, and Lyell and Doris moved to Watertown in 1990. His wife, Doris passed away on February 19, 1998. While living in Clear Lake, Lyell was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church where he held many offices. He also served on the Clear Lake City Council for six years. After Lyell and Doris moved to Watertown, he became a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Verna; his second wife, Doris; one brother and sister-in-law, Henry and Elvira Klemm; and his sister, Augusta Rabine. Lyell is survived by his two stepsons, Gene and Deanna Ward of Watertown, SD, and Bruce and Mona Ward of Mitchell, SD; his special friend, Gladys Dahlgren of Watertown, SD; five step grandchildren; four step great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Middle name provided by norway 11-21-2014
