Our community was deeply saddened on Thursday morning when it was learned that death has claimed Mrs. Walter Wilhelm, a young mother, three hours after giving birth for her second son. Mrs. Wilhelm was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Martin and was only 20 years of age at the time of her death. Her entire life had been spent in this community and a host of friends of hersef ad family mourn her untimely death. Lyla Mae Martin was born at Clarksville, Iowa, January 26, 1919, the oldest daughter of John and Hazel Pauley Martin. At the age of twelve years she became a member of the Methodist Episopal church in Clarksville. She attended the country school near her parents home until graduation from the eight grade and then attended the Clarksville high school, from which she graduated with the class of 1936. On July 26, 1936 she was married to Walter Wilhelm and they took up farming on the place 2 ½ miles east of Clarksville, owned by his father and where they had since resided. She is survived by her husband, two sons, Walter Jr., and the infant, who has been named Craig Kent; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Martin, a brother, Glenn; and two sisters,, Rowena and Jean, and a host of other relatives and friends. Mrs. Wilhelm was widely and favorably known in our community for her cheery, happy character and her loss is keenly felt. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon from the Community church with the pastor, the Rev. B.A. Wendlandt, in charge. Six young friends, members of her high school graduation class, served as casket bearers. Burial was in Lynwood Cemetery.
