Read More	November 8, 1922 THREE BROTHERS ARE DROWNED NEAR PABLO WHEN ICE GIVES WAY Three brothers, Lee, Willie, and Lyle Combs, were drowned yesterday afternoon about one o’clock in the Pablo reservoir while attempting to cross on the ice. The boys were 23, 17, and 15 years of age respectively, and were the sons of Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Combs, who lived on a ranch five miles east of Polson. The boys had left their home Monday evening intending to spend several days at Pablo Reservoir, three and a half miles south of Polson, hunting and trapping muskrat. Evidently the boys attempted to cross on the ice to an island about 100 feet out in the water, when the ice broke, letting all three boys into the water at the same time. The water is about 10 feet deep at this point and although the boys apparently made a desperate struggle, they were unable to get out. Two dogs which evidently fell into the water with the boys, managed to crawl out. August Lentz of Pablo, who had been hunting a short distance from the reservoir, heard the cries of the boys and running to the top of a knoll, was in time to see the last boy go down. As there were no boats near, he immediately rushed to Pablo and summoned aid from both Pablo and Polson. Searching parties were hurried to the scene of the accident but it was probably two hours before the bodies were recovered and the efforts of Dr. Doggie of Polson and Dr. A.K./ Resner of Pablo at resuscitation proved of no avail. Coroner W.J. Miller was notified and immediately left for the place of the accident where an investigation proved beyond a doubt that the boys came to their deaths by accidental drowning. The Combs family came to Polson about a year ago from Nebraska and took up their residence on what is known as the Lucier place east of Polson. Besides the mother and father, the boys are survived by four brothers and sisters. The remains were brought to Polson and interment will be made in the Polson cemetery.
