Description	:	Lyle Emmett Telkamp passed away Saturday, February 16, 2008, following a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born December 4, 1925, to Emmett and Mary (Reeve) Telkamp in Trenton Township, Brookings County, South Dakota, and received his education at Trenton District 81. After graduation from Brookings High School in 1943, he worked on his father's farm for several years. He married Gloria Hoerber on September 5, 1948, and they farmed 4 1/2 miles south of Aurora until 1952 when they moved to the Telkamp family farm. Read More	Lyle Emmett Telkamp passed away Saturday, February 16, 2008, following a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born December 4, 1925, to Emmett and Mary (Reeve) Telkamp in Trenton Township, Brookings County, South Dakota, and received his education at Trenton District 81. After graduation from Brookings High School in 1943, he worked on his father's farm for several years. He married Gloria Hoerber on September 5, 1948, and they farmed 4 1/2 miles south of Aurora until 1952 when they moved to the Telkamp family farm. They farmed there raising cattle and horses until their retirement. Lyle was confirmed and became a member of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in 1951 where he has served as an elder. He was active in shooting sports, having won two state championships in small bore rifle competition. He was a member of the Brookings Riding Club, South Dakota and National Quarter Horse Associations, South Dakota Palomino Exhibitors Association, and Southeastern South Dakota Horse Show Association, and held offices in these organizations. He was well known for training his horses for competition in the Western Riding and Trail Classes. Following his retirement, Lyle continued to enjoy riding and showing his horses and caring for assorted family pets. He was also well known for his hobby of welding metal sculptures of animals and other objects from old machinery. His sculpture park attracted visitors from around the world. Lyle was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria; their infant son, Lon; and his parents. In life, Lyle was deeply loved by family and friends. In death, he will be greatly missed by all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Lyle Telkamp Memorial Award for Youth Horsemanship are preferred. Memorial Service: 2:00 P.M.,Friday, February 22, 2008 Mt.
