Stotesbery died Saturday, April 13, 1985, in his home in Rochester. In 1968, Stotesbery and his son, Dennis, purchased the La Crescent State Bank, and had operated it since then. In 1979, the elder Stotesbery moved to La Crescent after selling his other banking interests. He had a 50-year banking career in the upper Midwest, beginning in 1934 with the purchase of Iowa Savings Bank in Grand Mound. He had banking interests in the Iowa communities of Calamus, Miles, Dubuque and Clinton, and in Quincy, Ill., during the next 30 years. From 1948 to 1964, he was a officer and director of Bank Shares, a holding company for the Marquette banking group in Minneapolis and Rochester, Minn. By 1964, he had sold all his Iowa and Illinois interests and had purchased the Citizens State Bank of Montgomery, Minn. In 1979, when he moved to La Crescent, he sold his interest in the Montgomery bank. Stotsbery was born Nov. 14, 1904, in Barry, Minn., to Urias J. and Laura (Sutliff) Stotesbery. He married Wilma Reindl on June 16, 1929, in Dubuque, Iowa. He was a life member of the Elks Lodge at Dubuque. Survivors are his wife; his son, Dennis of La Crescent; two grandsons; a sister, Amy Kohler of Hudson, Fla.; and two brothers, Stewart of Richfield, Minn., and Percy of Fennimore, Wis. A sister and two brothers preceded him in death. Memorials may be given to the La Crescent United Methodist Church of the American Heart Association.
