Read More	Lynda Joyce Hasty Hoyle Gallatin, TN A beloved retired Director of Recreation Services for the State of Tennessee, died Saturday morning January 21, 2017 after a week-long hospitalization in Louisville, KY, her home since 2014. Born in Monroe, NC, on July 10, 1944 to Nancy Mae Gurley and Walter Alexander Hasty, Sr., Joyce was the youngest of five siblings. She was a graduate of Monroe High School, Univ. of AL (BA & Masters), and was certified in the field of recreation and park conservation. Her career spanned four decades. Joyce earned recognition as a top woman in her field, paving the way for others as mentor and colleague. The National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) recognized her with their highest award for the So Eastern U.S (2004). The Tennessee Assoc. honored her with a similar award (1986). Joyce was named Woman of the Year in Charlotte in 1974. She served on the faculty of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga as well as on the Boards of the University of Georgia, Athens, Exec. Dev. School for Parks & Rec., NRPA and TRPA. Active in the Episcopal and Anglican Churches, Joyce delighted in expressing her faith through her re-creation and conservation career and daily life. She "believed in the inherent beauty of all God's creations on earth and always found peace in the gift of earth and conservation." A trusted friend, and respected and beloved colleague, Joyce was known for her gift of hospitality and relished telling good stories. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 45 years, Daniel Scarborough Hoyle Jr. (June 2016), and her brothers, Walter Alexander Hasty, Jr. and Gerald Lee Hasty, Sr. She leaves her two sisters Mary Dolores Hasty Sutton Wiley of Monroe, NC and Nancy Rachel Hasty Wooten of Ruby, SC, numerous adored and multiple generations of nieces and nephews, and Aglio, a bolonoodle. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory are encouraged to the Tennessee Recreation & Parks Educational Foundation PO Box 1326 Franklin, TN 37065. There will be family memorial service only. -
