The above book's section, takes the genealogy from them all the way to Lindsey born in 1749. Here is the text of that section: JOSSELYN JOSLIN JOCELYN &c an old English family dating back several hundred years and sett in Cornwall, Essex, Hertford, Kent &c. The Earl of Roden, is of the Jocelyns; and Sir Ralph Josceline, of Hertfordshire, was Mayor of London in 1474 and 1476, being made Knight of the Bath by King Edward IV, in the former year. The coats of arms vary in different families, and there is one extant in H., different from that which we have presented above, and handed down by tradition. In America Jno. Josselyn gent was in N. Eng. in 1638, and was the author among other works of one called "New England's Rarities;" and Henry, his bro., (and son of Sir Thomas of Kent,) was at Black Point, now Scarborough, Me., in 1634, being sent over, by Capt Mason, to make "a more complete discovery," and examination of the advantages of the grant made to Capt. M. He was a memb. of the Gen. Court at Saco, 1636; Councillor in 1639; Dep'y. Gov'r., 1645; a magistrate and member of the gov't of the province of Ligonia, 1650; and a commissioner and associate, under Massachusetts, 1658; and during the long period, from 1635 to 1676, he was one of the most active and influential men in the Prov., and during all the changes of proprietorship and gov't., he held the most important offices.1 He m. Marg't, wid. of Capt. Thos. Cammock, and it is said had one son, Henry. Family tradition, and other authorities, assert that this son sett. in Scit., Mass, in 1668, m. Abigail Stockbridge, 1676, and was the ancestor of the Josselyns of Plym'h. Co.2; but the correctness of this assertion, is somewhat doubtful. According to the Mass Hist. Coll., vol 8, third series, "Thos. Jestlin a husbandman, ae. 43; Rebecca his w., of the same age; and their ch., Rebecca ae. 18; Dorothy ae. 11; Nath'l., ae. 8; Eliza ae. 6; and Mary ae. 1 with a maid servant, Eliza Ward ae. 38, came to N. Eng. in the Increase, of London, Robert Lea, master, in 1635"; and according to Lincoln's Hist. H'm., Thos., the fa., was in H'm. in 1637; and in 1654, he was in Lancaster (Worcester Mag. 2, 280.) where he d. in 1660-1, (Midds'x Rec.) his wid. Rebecca being Exec'x of his Est. She m. Wm. Kerley, 1664. Abraham, son of Thos, sen'r, was not with his fa. when he came to N. Eng. in 1635, but seems to have arrived afterward. He was in H'm in 1647, but moved to Lanc'r before 1663, and d. bef. 1670 and his wid. Beatrice m. Serg't. Benja. Bosworth, of Hull.3 The desc'ts of Thos., the fa., and of Abraham, the son, still reside in Lanc'r, and the adjacent towns. The Josselyns of Scit., and H., are desc'ts from Abraham, through his son Henry. 2. Henry, s. Abraham, and gr.s. Thos, of London, sett. in Scit., 1669, was a blacksmith by trade, m. Abig., da. Chas. Stockbridge, Nov. 4, 1676; his house stood in the field, 50 rods east of Judge Wm. Cushing's farm house, and he d. in H., Oct 30, 1730, being called on the Ch. Rec., "the oldest man in the town for years." His wid. d. July 15, 1743. "A history of the town of Poultney, Vermont: from its settlement to 1875" (Published by Joseph Joslin, Barnes Frisbie, & Fredrick Ruggles 1875) is another interesting read about Lindsey's siblings, wives, and children. Pages 287-289 discuss Lindsey Joslin/Josselyn and his parents, siblings, wives and children. Here is the text of that section: Joslin - Lindsey Josselyn (as he spelled his name) was born August 12, 1749 in the Eastern Part of Massachusetts (town not remembered). At the age of five years, his parents with their children (Samuel, Jabez, Lindsey, Sarah, and Joseph) moved to Sheffield, Berkshire County, Mass. The Joslins were mostly iron mongers. Samuel and Lindsey were Bloomers, and soon after the close of the War of Revolution, came to Poultney, and erected a forge about half a mile east of the village of East Poultney, commonly called the "Todd place". Jabez, who was a tailor and Joseph who was a blacksmith, soon followed. Jabez established himself near the present residence of L. E. Thompson. Joseph remained single for several years; finally he married, and settled in Western New York, where some of his descendants remain in and around Batayia, blacksmiths, machinists, gunsmiths, etc. Lindsey Joslin married for his first wife Susan Welsh in the year 1773, by whom he had six children: Jabez, Abi, Sarah, Lindsey, Alvin, and Susan. I think the first three were born in Sheffield, Mass., and the last three in Poultney. He was frequently called out during the Revolution in the defense of his country, and assisted in the capture of Burgoyne. At the close of the war, as before stated, he came with his family to Poultney, where he continued to reside until his death, which occurred August 12, 1826, aged 77 years. His first wife, Susan, died in 1794, leaving an infant daughter named Susan. Jabez, the eldest son, m. a Miss Waldo, of Middletown, where he resided for several years; for a time was proprietor of the Valley Hotel (as it is now called); was town clerk, and held various town offices until about to the year 1815 where he removed to Clarendon, Orleans County, N.Y., where he remained until his death in March, 1873, aged 95 years. Abi M. Rufus Branch, of Castleton, where they lived a few years -- moved to Ohio and d. Sarah m. Abel Hawkins (son of Moses H, of Castleton), was left a widow in middle life, with a large family, remained a short time in Castleton, then went to the State of Maine to live with one of her children. Lindsey m. Polly Wait of Granville, N.Y., about the year 1814, went to Cayuga County, N.Y., then very thinly settled, engaged extensively in business, accumulated a handsome property, but by becoming surety for other parties, lost a large amount, was broken up in his business, went to McHenry Co., Ill., where he was a leading man in church and state for several years and died in Elgin, Ill., aged 75. He left several sons who have made their mark not only as business men, but in the learned professions -- on clergyman, three lawyers, and one physician. Alvin, the third son, left the paternal home in his minority, went to Pennsylvania with on Abyram Pierce, remained there a few years, took to himself a wife and removed to western New York. Susan, the youngest daughter, went to visit her brother Lindsey, (in Cayuga county,) where she m. Fredrick Croul, a well-to-do Dutchman. They both d. in middle life leaving two daughters of whom we have good reports. Lindsey Joslin senior remained a widower until 1797, when he m. the widow of Daniel Richards, by whom he had two children, Joseph and Lucy. Joseph was b. Dec 12, 1799; m. Caroline C. Gurgles Oct, 13, 1825. They have had six children: Jenks, b. Dec 24, 1827, and d Jan 24, 1833 John Jay, b May 11, 1829, m Mary E Andrus. Their children are Hattie, Edna, and Frank all living. John Jay engaged in the mercantile business, and is now trading in Denver, Colorado. Frank, b March 18, 1832, d. June 10, 1833 Sept. 5, 1867, to Marion, daughter of James Hastings, Brandon. They have two children, Nell and Ralph. Jervis is doing a jewelry business in Cheyenne, Wyoming Territory. William Jenks, b Nov. 5, 1838, d. Jan 18, 1841 Carrie, b. Sept. 18, 1848, m. H.M. Bacon, Oct. 13, 1868, and is now living in Northfield Minn. The 13th of Oct., 1874, was the 50th anniversary of the marriage of Dea. Joseph Joslin and wife. On returning from his office a few minutes after 8 o'clock in the evening, he was surprised to find his house filled with his neighbors and friends, who had come to pay their respects, in words and deeds suitable to the occasion.
