Description	:	M. Dean Elliott was born April 18, 1935, the son of James Earl and Mary (Burrell) Elliott in Woodward, IA. Dean and his brother, Jim were raised on a dairy farm. He graduated from Woodward High School in 1953 and attended Iowa State University. In 1956, Dean married Verla Jensen, daughter of Chris and Anna Jensen of Greenfield, Iowa. Dean and his brother, Jim were raised on a dairy farm. He graduated from Woodward High School in 1953 and attended Iowa State University. In 1956, Dean married Verla Jensen, daughter of Chris and Anna Jensen of Greenfield, Iowa. They became the proud parents of three daughters, Kathleen, Donna and Deanna Lee. Dean was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. Dean was a farmer who loved his land. In addition to that he also worked as a Ford car salesman, in construction and at the lumberyard before starting work at John Deere Des Moines Works in 1963. He worked at John Deere for 31 years before retiring in 1994. During those years he traveled all over the U.S. and Canada as a mechanic in research and development. Dean's favorite colors were green and gold for John Deere, the W.G. Hawks and the Packers. He spent many happy days boating, water skiing and playing golf. Dean and Verla loved to travel, driving around the U.S. Special trips were to Europe and the family vacation to Disney World. Dean was a member of the BPOE Elks Lodge in Perry, Woodward Golf and Recreation and the Woodward Cemetery Association. He was a charter member of Xenia Rural Water Association, helping in its formation. Dean was a member of the Woodward United Methodist Church, currently serving on the Ad Council. His latest interest was Envision Woodward. He loved his hometown, his ancestors settled here in 1857 and wanted to make it a great place for those who live there. Dean was very proud of Don and Mark, who are the chosen husbands of his daughters. They were the sons he never had. Then along came four grandsons who were the icing on his cake and brought so much joy. M. Dean Elliott passed away suddenly Saturday afternoon, August 26, 2006. A funeral service will be held at 10 AM, Wednesday, August 30 at the United Methodist Church in Woodward with burial following at Woodward Cemetery. Dean is survived by his loving wife, Verla J. Elliott; daughters, Kathleen (Don) Connor, Donna Elliott, and Deanna Lee (Mark) Stoering; grandsons, Sean Connor, Michael Connor, David Stoering and Derek Stoering; brother-in-laws, Kenneth (Billie) Jensen and Darrell (Wilda) Jensen; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Elliott and many nieces, nephews, cousins and lots of friends. A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in Woodward. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the United Methodist Church in Woodward or to Envision Woodward, PO Box 186, Woodward, Iowa 50276.
