Mabel (Angermeier) Erickson, 102, formerly of Grenora, ND, passed away on January 27, 2018 at Bethel Lutheran Home in Williston, ND. Mabel Alvina Erickson was born July 5, 1915 to William and Lillian Campbell in Miles City, Montana. She was one of eight children, having two brothers and five sisters. As a child, her family moved around central and western Montana, wherever work took her father. She graduated from high school in 1934 in Stevensville, Montana. After graduation she attended college, but finances prevented her from continuing her education. After working on a ranch for a short time, she decided to move to Missoula to help her sister Ruth with her children. There she met Roy Angermeier and they were married on December 17, 1936. The next spring she and Roy packed up their Model A and headed for the prairies of ND, Roy’s home territory. Amazingly, they made it over McDonald Pass pulling a jersey cow, a wedding present from her dad, with hopes of settling on a farm of their own. They started out on the Wheeler Place south of Grenora, ND. By 1940, they were able to settle on the farmstead, which they would call home for the next 37 years. Here they worked hard to provide for their 8 rambunctious children. Mabel enjoyed her life on the farm. She said they were the happiest years of her life, even though it was hard work. They raised cattle, grain, chickens and pigs. She had a large vegetable garden and baked endless loaves of bread. Later when the children were older, she used her talents as a cook at the Grenora Cafe. Many former Grenora School students also remember her as their janitor. She then went on to work in the kitchen washing dishes and eventually took over as the cook. Roy passed away on May 6, 1975. Mabel stayed on the farm until 1977. At this time, she moved into her home on Main Street in Grenora. She married Norris Erickson in October of 1977. Norris brought the spark back into her eyes. Most weekends you could find them dancing at the Blue Moon in Plentywood, Montana. It’s been told, if a good dance song came on the radio as they drove home, they would stop the truck on the highway to dance. They enjoyed life together by doing projects, big and small, for family and friends. When Norris passed away on March 9, 2001, Mabel decided to move to Williston, North Dakota. She lived at the Kensington, until needing more care when Bethel became her home in 2012. She was one of those people who enjoyed working her whole life. She liked to keep busy. She enjoyed needlework, making plastic canvas and yarn projects, playing cards, bingo, reading, doing puzzles, and especially, one to one visiting. Her greatest joy was when family or friends stopped to visit or gave a call. Every visit was special to her. Several grandchildren thought they could vie for status of “The Favorite Grandchild”. In reality, they all held that status. Mabel is survived by her daughter Della Nielsen of Plentywood, MT; Joe Angermeier (Marge) of Milaca, MN; Fred Angermeier of Billings, MT; Roxy Boettcher (Dick) of Helena, MT; Jim Angermeier of Billings, MT; Elmer Angermeier (Sue) of Williston, ND; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her husbands, Roy Angermeier and Norris Erickson, and three children; Brenda, Gordon, and Carol Nielsen. Fulkerson-Stevenson Funeral Home
