Description	:	Mrs. Mabel Henson Hollar, 93, of Vilas, died Thursday afternoon, June 6, at Blowing Rock Hospital. She was born November 19, 1902 in Amantha to Charles Eli and Hattie Harbin Henson. She began a teaching career when in the seventh grade and continued her education by earning a teaching degree from Appalachian State Teachers College. She taught school for 46 years in Watauga County. Thirty-four of those years were at Blowing Rock Elementary School. She, also, taught at Mabel, Mast, Bamboo, Brushy Fork, Forest Grove, Foscoe and Grandfather Elementary Schools and cherished each and every one of her... Read More	Mrs. Mabel Henson Hollar, 93, of Vilas, died Thursday afternoon, June 6, at Blowing Rock Hospital. She was born November 19, 1902 in Amantha to Charles Eli and Hattie Harbin Henson. She began a teaching career when in the seventh grade and continued her education by earning a teaching degree from Appalachian State Teachers College. She taught school for 46 years in Watauga County. Thirty-four of those years were at Blowing Rock Elementary School. She, also, taught at Mabel, Mast, Bamboo, Brushy Fork, Forest Grove, Foscoe and Grandfather Elementary Schools and cherished each and every one of her students. Mrs. Hollar was an avid gardener and artist. She was a life long member of Henson Chapel United Methodist Church. Survivors include three brothers, one sister, six sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law and a number of nieces and nephews, and special friends Bertha and Etta. She was preceded in death by her husband, Duke Hollar, five brothers, Russell Clyde, Ford, Allen, and Robert Henson; four sisters, Mrs. Lucy Storie, Martha Edith Henson, Mary Lizzie Henson and Hattie Mae Henson. Services were Sunday afternoon at the Henson Chapel United Methodist Church, officiated by the Reverend Mark Evan and Mr. Kenneth Caswell. Burial followed in the Henson Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery. Austin & Barnes Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Watauga Democrat, June 1996
