Description	:	Mabel Engel, 82, of Watertown, South Dakota, passed away Friday, September 11, 2015 in Bryant, SD. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Watertown. Reverend Iver Possehl will officiate with Sharon Falk as the organist. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 p.m., Tuesday at Wight and Comes Funeral Chapel in Watertown. Interment will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown. Honorary pallbearers will be all of Mabel’s grandchildren, and her friends from church. Mabel Ardell Schoon was born on April 17, 1933, at Corona, South Dakota, to Ben and Gepka (Veen) Schoon. Her mother passed away when she was two years old. She was raised by her Uncle Robert and Aunt Reka (Schoon) Ferber. She grew up on a farm west of Corona and attended rural country school. On October 11, 1953, she married Ronald Lewis Engel at Corona. They moved to a farm southwest of Summit where three daughters were born. Later they moved to a farm northwest of Summit, then to Webster, and finally the family moved to Watertown, where their son was born. Mabel was a busy wife and mother, plus babysitting neighbors children until she started working at Jenkins Nursing Home as a nurses aide for 25 years. Ronald passed away April 10, 1999. Mabel later moved to Sunchase Apartments, having many friends, until the Sunchase burned down in August 2013. She then moved to Park View Assisted Living at Bryant until December 2014 when moving into the Park View Care Center. She was active with the ladies at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church. She enjoyed being a grandmother and great grandmother. She also enjoyed doing puzzles. Mabel is survived by her daughter, Marceen (David) Nystrom, Estelline, SD; her son, Kevin (Nancy) Engel, Watertown; five grandchildren, Annette, Philip, Tanner, Abby and Cooper; one great grandson, James; her Aunt Helen Veen, Revillo; her sister-in-law, Kathryn Schoon, Rockford, IL; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald; two infant daughters at birth; her parents, plus her aunt and uncle who raised her; her brothers, Elmer and Alfred; and her sister, Gladys (Herman) Benthin.
