Konopasek of Verdigre, suddenly passed away and Thursday, the following day, Mabel Blanche, the youngest child of Mr. and Mrs. Stadlman, succumbed to diphtheria. Both funerals were held Friday, Mr. Konopasek's at Verdigre and the daughter's here. Final rites for the latter were private, because of the contagiousness of diphtheria. The family home is under quarantine. Joseph Z. Konopasek, who for several weeks prior to his death, suffered much from cancer of the stomach and heart trouble, was a well known farmed of the Verdigre community. He was born in Czechoslovakia in 1871 and came to the United States in 1909. He leaves his widow, seven sons and three daughters. Mabel Blanche Stadlman, who died Thursday, February 5 at the family home, was one year, eight months and twenty-three days old at the time of her demise. Only the day before she had been brought home from the hospital at Norfolk. She leaves to mourn her death,her parents, one brother and one sister. Private services at Greenwood cemetery Friday morning were conducted by Rev. W.E. Wilson of the Creighton Methodist church. The News extend sympathy to those bereaved by the double tragedy.
