Though born in St. Joseph, MO, Mabel was raised in the Hamburg, Iowa area, and was graducated from the Hamburg high school. Then she worked as a nanna for a few years. She married James Earl Mackey on November 30, 1925. "Mackey" is pronounced "MACK-ee." They lived in Hamburg, then in Missouri before moving to Woodbine, IA in 1942. Earl died July 22, 1982. Mable was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Woodbine. She loved to sew and work with flowers. She loved to read any writings by Grace Livingston Hill. Mabel died at the Rose Vista Nursing Home in Woodbine at age 106, 10 months and 27 days. Besides her parents and husband, Mabel was preceded in death by a son, James E. Mackey, Jr.; two daughters, Shirley Kay Corbett and Donna Lynn Perse; grandson Ed Corbett, and brother Fredrick Trimble. She is survived by four daughtes, Mabel Lee Brummer of Council Bluffs, IA; Marilyn Louise Connell of Omaha, NE; Carol Rae and husband Bill Morrison of Woodbine; and Janet Gayle and husband Terry Heig of Sun City West, AZ; a son-in-law Harold Perse of Denver, Co; plus 21 grandchildren and numerous great and great-great grandchildren.
