Funeral services for Mrs. Ridenour were held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 17, 1979 at the Govier Brothers Mortuary Chapel in Broken Bow, Nebraska, with the Rev. Keith W. Funeral services for Mrs. Ridenour were held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 17, 1979 at the Govier Brothers Mortuary Chapel in Broken Bow, Nebraska, with the Rev. Keith W. Johnson, new pastor of the United Methodist Church in Merna, officiating. Interment was made in the Kilfoil Township Cemetery at Merna, rural Custer County, Nebraska, with Govier Bros. Mortuary of Broken Bow, Nebraska in charge of arrangements. A memorial in her loving memory was established to the Cancer Fund. Mabel Elizabeth Chrystal was born on April 13, 1901 in Lineville, Iowa. Her family moved to Nebraska in 1910. She received her schooling in Merna, Nebraska, and at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, Nebraska. She then taught school in country school and in elementary school in Merna. On June 4, 1921, she was united in marriage to James Lee Ridenour. She was librarian at the Brenizer Public Library in Merna for eleven years. She was a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star lodge, and also belonged to the Past Matrons Club and the Past Representatives, and long-time member of the United Methodist Church in Merna and active member of United Methodist Women's organizations. She is survived by her husband, his family, and by her many life-long friends.
