Description	:	Mabel Powell Shenk, 94, of Harrisonburg, Va., died on Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009, at Oak Lea Nursing Home. She was born on May 13, 1914, in Elida, Ohio, and was the daughter of the late Samuel J. and Laura Shenk Powell. She was the eldest of five children. She was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Mae, and two brothers, John and Samuel. On Oct. 22, 1944, she married Amos Shenk of Newport News, who preceded her in death on Dec. 22, 1982. She and her husband helped with the work at the... Read More	Mabel Powell Shenk, 94, of Harrisonburg, Va., died on Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009, at Oak Lea Nursing Home. She was born on May 13, 1914, in Elida, Ohio, and was the daughter of the late Samuel J. and Laura Shenk Powell. She was the eldest of five children. She was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Mae, and two brothers, John and Samuel. On Oct. 22, 1944, she married Amos Shenk of Newport News, who preceded her in death on Dec. 22, 1982. She and her husband helped with the work at the Calvary Mission Church, did voluntary service in Elkhart, Ind., and served at the International Guest House in Washington, D.C. Following her husband's death, she lived 10 more years in Newport News before moving to Heritage Haven in 1992. Mrs. Shenk is survived by one son, Bill Shenk of New Hope, Va.; one sister, Dorothy Brunk of Salem, Ohio; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Powell, of Harrisonburg and a number of nieces and nephews. She was a member of Lindale Mennonite Church . A memorial service will be held at Strite Auditorium, Crestwood at Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community on Saturday, Feb. 28, at 2:30 p.m. DNR - Wednesday, February 18, 2009
