Smith Passes Away Unexpectedly 17 Aug 1978 Mabel Ellen Wolstenholm Smith, daughter of James and Mary Wullbrandt Wolstenholm, was born in McCool Junction, Neb., September 29, 1902, and departed this life at the age of 75 years, 10 months, and 7 days at York General hospital August 5, 1978. Mabel was taken to the York General hospital Saturday morning after being stricken at her home only a short time earlier with a massive coronary. She was married to Harold Frank Smith September 10, 1924, at Council Bluffs, Ia. To this union was born two sons, Harold Frank Jr., and Donald Duane. Mabel lived all her life in the McCool community and was a life-long member of the former F.U.B., now United Methodist church. She was a charter member of the Woman's Missionary Association organized May 24, 1927, later known as W.S.W.S. then W.S.C.S., and the present United Methodist Women. Her "Garden Hopper" Garden club and M.M.M. Extension club of which she was a charter member, gave her pleasure and opportunity to share with her friends and nieghbors. As song as her health permitted, she was always anxious to be in her place in the service of God's house. Mabel was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, neighbor and friend, ready to rise to the need of those who needed her. Mabel Wolstenholm Smith was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, and four brothers. Surviving are her husband, Harold; two sons, Harold Jr., and wife Imogene of Fairmont; Donald and wife, Pat, of La Mesa, Cal.; five grandchildren, Mrs. Steve (Linda) Miles, Mrs. Michael (Sharon) Olson, Marcia Jean Smith, Mrs. Michael (Deborah) Brinkman and Greagory Smith; four great-grandchildren, Monica and Amber Miles, Jerod Olson, and Tamara Brinkman; one brother, Harry Wolstenholm of Lincoln; many nieces, nephews, and a host of friends. She will be deeply missed by all whose lives she has touched. Mabel reared her own monument while she lived in the hearts of all who knew her. Her life was completed; if work all done and well done – constitutes completion. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, August 8, from the United Methodist church in McCool, with Rev. Marvin Herrick officiating. Burial was in Greenwood cemetery at York.
