Description	:	SHELBY — Mabel Ethel Brown was born in Genoa, ND on Dec. 12, 1910. She was the daughter of Edward Simmons and Augusta Schwab. She was one of seven children in the family. She attended school in North Dakota. She married Arthur Larsen in 1931 in ND. Following their marriage they moved to a farm in the Tennant area, where they lived until moving to CA in 1941. Read More	SHELBY — Mabel Ethel Brown was born in Genoa, ND on Dec. 12, 1910. She was the daughter of Edward Simmons and Augusta Schwab. She was one of seven children in the family. She attended school in North Dakota. She married Arthur Larsen in 1931 in ND. Following their marriage they moved to a farm in the Tennant area, where they lived until moving to CA in 1941. They made their home between Iowa and CA for several years due to Art's health. From 1948 to 1950 they operated the Chatterbox Cafe in Avoca. They were the parents of three sons, Arthur, Jr., Edward and Jerry. While living in the Harlan area, she was very active in both the American Legion and the V.F.W. Auxiliaries, having served as president of both organizations. She maintained her membership in these organizations throughout the years. He died in 1950. She moved to CA in1952 where she operated a Tax Accounting Service up until the time of her death. She married George Brown on Feb. 25, 1954. She died at the Care West Gateway Nursing Center in Hayward, .CA on Jan. 23, 1988 at age 77 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Arthur and one son, Edward; two brothers and three sisters. She is survived by her husband, George Brown of Hayward, CA and her two sons, Arthur and Jerry living in Hayward, CA; her daughter-inlaw, Donna Dargin of Avoca; eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren; her sister, Edith Chaves of Hayward, CA, besides other relatives . Funeral services were Jan. 29, 1988 at Berthusen-Knutson Funeral Home in Avoca with Pastor Harold Peterson, officiating. Burial was in the Shelby cemetery with Dr. Roy Schultz, Donald Pattee, Eldon Erickson, Larry Lippold, Vernon Hinz and Dale Harris serving as casket bearers Contributor: Marthann Kohl-Fuhs (47102630) •
