She was born to William and Etta Gess on September 20, 1910 at Dunbar, Nebraska, one of 14 children. Mabel was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith. She graduated from Dunbar High School and attended Peru State College where she received her teacher's certificate. Mabel taught in a rural school. She was born to William and Etta Gess on September 20, 1910 at Dunbar, Nebraska, one of 14 children. Mabel was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith. She graduated from Dunbar High School and attended Peru State College where she received her teacher's certificate. Mabel taught in a rural school. Mabel was united in marriage to Alvin Evers on February 14, 1935 in Grand Island, Nebraska. Alvin passed away May 1, 1962. She loved being a farmwife, her family, quilting, baking bread, gardening, bowling and traveling. Mabel is survived by her daughter, Greta Holscher and husband Claron of Cook, grandchildren, Vicky Cowan and husband Sam of Beatrice, Tammy Gruber and husband Jayme of Lincoln, Rich Holscher of Germany and Jim Holscher and wife Sheryl of Scottsbluff, great –grandchildren, Tom Cowan, Beth Cowan, Alysha Gruber, KC Gruber, Jenna Gruber, Emily Holscher, Isaac Holscher, Madeline Holscher, Betsy Holscher and Zoë Holscher. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Alvin and all of her siblings. Funeral services will be held at the Grace Lutheran Church in Cook, Nebraska, at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 15, 2013 with Rev. Jim Helgren and Rev. Curtis Rieger officiating. Visitation will be at the Wherry Mortuary in Tecumseh, Nebraska, Friday, June 14, 2013 from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials in lieu of flowers may go to the family's choice. Interment will be in the Grace Lutheran Cemetery, rural Cook, Nebraska. Online condolences may be left @ www.wherrymortuary.com.
