Following her wishes, her body has been cremated and private family graveside services will be at the Ames Municipal Cemetery in Ames at a later date. There will be no visitation hours. Mabel was born July 7, 1916, on a farm in Boone County, the daughter of James and Mayme (Wilson) Jenkins. She graduated from Jordan Consolidated School. On February 25, 1937, Mabel married Loyall Kitchen in Boone County. The couple celebrated 60 years of marriage in 1997. Mabel helped her husband farm in the Jordan and Napier areas. In 1977, they moved to Boone. She was a member of the Prairie Center Methodist Church and the First United Methodist Church and Tree Knitters. The couple traveled throughout the United States, driving and also taking bus trips. She especially enjoyed her trips to the Gulf coast and collecting shells. Mabel also enjoyed crocheting, dining out, shopping for clothes, being with her family and friends, and feeding and watching birds and squirrels. In earlier years, she enjoyed reading, cooking, and collecting recipes. Mabel was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and son-in-law Leo Bimbi. She is survived by two daughters Joyce Bimbi of Madrid and Jean Duffy and husband Steve of Boone; three grandchildren David Comstock and wife Lana of Ames (and their children Sarah and Justin Neely), Lori Jensen and husband Phil of Polk City (and their daughter Kelci Jensen), and John Bimbi and wife Melissa of Charleston, South Carolina; a brother Robert Jenkins and wife Helen of Jacksonville, Florida; special friend Gene Mackey of Boone; and several nieces and nephews.
