In Memory of Mabel "Mickey/Mick" Wubbena was born July 26, 1936 in rural Dumont, Iowa, the daughter of John and Martha (Viet) Wubbena. She was quickly given the nickname by her family because she loved Mickey Mouse. In Memory of Mabel "Mickey/Mick" Wubbena was born July 26, 1936 in rural Dumont, Iowa, the daughter of John and Martha (Viet) Wubbena. She was quickly given the nickname by her family because she loved Mickey Mouse. At the age of 7, her family moved to Coulter where she attended Franklin Consolidated Schools first in Coulter and then in Latimer. She loved playing basketball, and clarinet in the band. She met Wesley Meyer at a skating rink where his band was playing. On Aug 3, 1956, they were married. They attended Trinity Lutheran Church in Hampton all of their married life which was just shy of 60 years when he passed away on January 20, 2016. Mabel and Wesley lived in Latimer until they moved to the Meyer Family Farm where Wesley grew up. She loved living on the farm, and being a housewife. That gave her the time to care for their three girls, which was her biggest joy. She attended most of her daughter's school activities, and served as President of Band Mothers at CAL School. Mabel loved going on bike rides in the evening with the girls on the gravel roads around the farm. She was very involved at the church as a Sunday school teacher, Bible School teacher, and served as President of the Ladies Aid. Mabel was also a 4-H Leader for many years. In 1972, she and Wesley built a 13,000 bird chicken house that became a full-time job for her. In the early 80's, she worked at Boyt in Iowa Falls where she sewed soft-sided luggage. She loved to bake. She was best known for her variety of cookies she provided to family, church activities, and bake sales of charitable organizations in the Des Moines area. Everyone enjoyed the popcorn balls she made for school band concerts, and the peanut brittle and caramel corn she made as Christmas gifts. Her potato salad was a favorite of everyone at church functions. She loved her cats, and enjoyed growing flowers. It made her happy to watch birds, squirrels, rabbits, and deer outside her kitchen window. Mabel is survived by her daughters, Colette (Kevin) Westaby of Belmond, Iowa; and Kim Meyer of Pleasant Hill, Iowa; her son-in law, Bond Howery of Huber Heights, Ohio; grandson Jesse (Sarah) Westaby of Alexander, Iowa, and their children Micaiah, Hadassah, Jonas, Naomi, and Asa; granddaughter Casey (Chris) LaCommare of Fullerton, CA, and their children Connor and Lincoln; her brother Carlton (Beverly) Wubbena of N. San Juan, CA; her sister-in-law Connie Wubbena of Iowa Falls, Iowa, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents John and Martha; husband Wesley; youngest daughter LuJean "Jean" Meyer-Howery; sister Irma; brother Willis; and nephew Marty Wubbena. Mabel loved animals and supported the Animal Rescue League. Burial will be in the Hampton Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 22nd from 4-7pm at the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton. Mabel Joan Meyer passed away Friday, May 17th at her home in Hampton.
