Mrs. Smith's formative years were spent in Thorncreek Township, Whitley County, IN where she graduated from Thorncreek High School and continued to reside for 70 years. She married Josiah William "Joe" Smith on "Old Settler's Day," 15 August 1935 in Columbia City, IN. Mrs. Smith's formative years were spent in Thorncreek Township, Whitley County, IN where she graduated from Thorncreek High School and continued to reside for 70 years. She married Josiah William "Joe" Smith on "Old Settler's Day," 15 August 1935 in Columbia City, IN. On October 11, 1980 she and her late husband moved to Columbia City where they resided on West Van Buren Street until she move to Blue River Drive. In August 2004 she moved to Miller's Merry Manor Nursing Home. She was employed for 30 years as a factory worker starting at the Columbia Woolen Mills, then Ion Capacitor, then to Columbia Products which was destroyed by fire in 1955. She was then transfered to Columbia Products in Pierceton. She lastly worked as a milling machine operator at Essex Division of the United Technologies, Columbia City, IN, retiring in 1975. She was also a homemaker and delivered the News-Sentinel newspaper for several years. She attended the Columbia City Church of the Nazarene and was a member of the Believer's Bible Church, Churubusco, IN. She is survived by 1 sister, Marie Jones ( ) Columbia City, IN; 1 brother, Marshall Smith, Columbia City, IN several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Josiah William "Joe" Smith, 1 brother, Russell Smith and 1 sister, Mildred Smith Downing.
