Description	:	Mabel Lillian Chesley and her husband John Franklin Trafton did not have biological children of their own so when Mabel's brother George Chesley's wife Ida died at age 35 in 1915 and left several children for him to take care of it was decided by George and Mabel that Mabel and John Trafton would 'adopt two of George and Ida's children namely Mabel b 1866 and her youngest brother Harold (or F Harold) Chesley. So their biological name was indeed Chesley. They lived in WI where they had been born but a while after Ida's death he too his children... It is there that his two children Mabel b 1866 and his son Harold would live as adopted children of his sister Mabel b 1866 and and Mabel's husband John had been living so they raised these two children for him. As to whether this was a legal adoption I do not know as I have not seen adopted forms regarding this matter but the two children were raised after their arrival in Maine with the Trafton surname. When Harold married he used Trafton as his surname as did his children not the Chesley name which is what his biological name was.
