Description	:	The funeral for Mabel M. Beckstrom, 90, of Oakland will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church in Oakland. She died Monday, July 25, 2005, at Oakland Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. She was born July 28,1914, in rural Bertha to Alfred and Signe (Mattson) Olson. Bertha was located 1 mile east and 7 miles north of Craig. She attended the first eight years of school at Bertha School District 36 and graduated from Tekamah High School in 1932, receiving a teaching certificate. She did not get a school and never went on to further her... Read More	The funeral for Mabel M. Beckstrom, 90, of Oakland will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church in Oakland. She died Monday, July 25, 2005, at Oakland Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. She was born July 28,1914, in rural Bertha to Alfred and Signe (Mattson) Olson. Bertha was located 1 mile east and 7 miles north of Craig. She attended the first eight years of school at Bertha School District 36 and graduated from Tekamah High School in 1932, receiving a teaching certificate. She did not get a school and never went on to further her education. She married Walter Iver Beckstrom on Dec. 15, 1937, in Blair. She had resided at Oakland Heights for the past few years after a stroke and heart attacks left her unable to care for herself. She spent her first 57 years in the Bertha area, moving six times, but not much over a mile from her birthplace. She was very involved in her church and community. She was a member of the Divide Center Presbyterian Church, teaching Sunday school and being in involved in various women's groups, leading Bible study and serving the church. She also cleaned the church until it closed 1979. After the church closed, she attended the Free Church in Oakland. She then attended the First Baptist Church in Oakland and became a member. She was a member of various groups and organizations, which included serving as president of WCTU and being an active member of the Extension Club in her neighborhood. When her sons were young, she was a Cub Scout leader and Sunday school teacher. She was an active volunteer at Oakland Heights Nursing Home, where she led a Bible study. She was selected by the community and received the Aksarben Good Neighbor Award. Survivors included: three sons, Iver (and wife, Sheila) of Craig, Kenneth (and wife, Linda) and Alfred, all of Omaha; 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and four stepgreat- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, four sisters and four brothers The Rev. Curtis Hineline will officiate Thursday's service. Visitation will be from 1- 8 p.m. today at Palmquist-Pelan Funeral Home in Oakland with the family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. A prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to service time at the church. Burial will be in the Baptist Cemetery in rural Uehling.
