Description	:	Mabel Gillett, 88, of Waterloo, died at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines on Monday, March 18, 2013, from injuries in a fall. Mabel Minnie Hersey was born at home on August 26, 1924 in New Hartford, Iowa, the daughter of John David Forest and Tillie (Huisman) Hersey. Mabel graduated valedictorian from New Hartford High School in 1941 at the age of 16. She graduated from Gates Business College and then worked at Iowa State Teachers College (now UNI) Radio Station. Mabel Minnie Hersey was born at home on August 26, 1924 in New Hartford, Iowa, the daughter of John David Forest and Tillie (Huisman) Hersey. Mabel graduated valedictorian from New Hartford High School in 1941 at the age of 16. She graduated from Gates Business College and then worked at Iowa State Teachers College (now UNI) Radio Station. She married James L. Gillett on September 12, 1947 in Waterloo. He died August 15, 1986. She had farmed with her husband and later was business manager for Jane's Flowers & Gifts, retiring in 1976. After retirement she and her husband served as missionaries in Ireland from 1977‑2009. She is survived by her son James W. and his wife Jean of Dublin, Ireland and daughter Mary Kline and her husband Paul of Norwalk, Iowa and six grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren: Jonathan Gillett and his wife Priscilla of Ft. Montgomery, Texas and their children Zoe and Lexi; Julie Burnfield and her husband Andy of Longview, Texas and their daughter Amelia; Mark Kline and his wife Jessalyn of Des Moines, Iowa and their children: Caedmon, Jayden, and Benjamin; Leah Miller and her husband Abram of Dubuque, Iowa and their children: Josiah, Jude and Joshua; Sarah Bracewell and her husband Jonathan of Lawton, Oklahoma and their children: James, William and Daniel; and Lois Kline of Norwalk, Iowa. Mabel also is survived by her brother Fred Hersey of Waterloo and four sisters: Gloria Card of Marshalltown, Iowa, Betty Ehmen Waterloo, Minnie Feckers and her husband Fred of Clarksville, Iowa, and Jane Rice of Waverly. She is preceded in death by brother John Hersey.
