Description	:	Mabel Brandvold, 87, Bottineau, died Sept. 17, 2007, at a Bottineau nursing home. Services were held Sept. 21 at First Lutheran Church, Bottineau. Officiating at the service was the Rev. Glenn Berge. Shelly Berge was the organist and Don Indvik was the soloist. Casket bears were all of Mabel's grandsons. Mabel Brandvold, a daughter of Haaken H. and Annie (Haugen) Skarphol, was born Jan. 31, 1920, at Souris. She attended grade school at Peabody School and later graduated from Souris High School. On July 21, 1940, she married Paul Brandvold at Souris. They owned and operated Clear View Dairy Farm in Peabody Township near Souris. It was there that they raised their seven children. This marriage later ended. In 1976, Mabel moved into Bottineau and began working as a dietician at St. Andrew's Hospital. She retired in 1990, but still worked part time there occasionally. She moved into Oak Manor in 2003 and in 2006 she moved into Bottineau Good Samaritan Center, where she has since resided. Mabel was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Souris and later First Lutheran Church in Bottineau. She was active in the WELCA at both churches. She was involved with PTO at Souris Public School for many years and she was also a member of the Peabody Homemakers. She enjoyed gardening, canning, baking and cooking. She had the gift of hospitality and loved having her family and friends around her, especially when playing her favorite game of Yahtzee. She also loved watching her grandchildren participate in their various activities. She rarely missed a hockey game. Mabel is survived by two sons, Jerry (Margo), Jacksonville, Fla., and Tim (Marcia), St. Joseph, Minn.; five daughters, Constance Michaelsen, New Smyrna Beach, Fla., Gloria James, Green Valley, Ariz., Pat Kersten, Kramer, Betty (John) Walker, Boise, Idaho, and Linda (Gene) Wyman, Bismarck; 23 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betsy Tallon, Bottineau, and Agnes Lindstrom, Westhope; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Harold, Nels and Verdeen; one sister, Alice Gustafson; and one great-grandson, Levi Nelson. (Nero Funeral Home, Bottineau)
