Description	:	Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Mon., June 7, for Mabelle Leone Bak, 87, Madison, who died June 4, 2004, at Bethel Lutheran Home. The Rev. Al Goldammer will officiate in St. John Lutheran Church at Madison, and burial will be in Canova Cemetery at Canova. Visitation will begin Sunday morning, with the family present at 7 p.m., at the Ellsworth Funeral Home. Mabelle Snethen was born March 2, 1917, at Canova to Earl and Josie (Harter) Snethen. She graduated from Canova High School, attended Eastern Normal College at Madison, and eventually earned her bachelor of science degree from Dakota State. She married Edwin O. Bak on Dec. 23, 1943, at Pipestone, Minn. They made their home in Howard and several towns where their work took them. She taught for 48 years in eight different schools, many of them rural schools as well as Fairview, Tea, Lennox and St. Thomas in Madison. She suffered from post polio syndrome for 19 years and entered Bethel Lutheran Home in 1987. She was a member St. John Lutheran Church. She also worked with 4-H and Girl Scouts. Survivors include a sister, Florence (Milton) Plucker of Sioux Falls; a brother, Gerald (Ruby) Snethen of Des Moines, Iowa; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1971; one sister, Norma Bohms; and one brother, Everett Snethen. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.ellsworthfh.com.
