Cox, 89, a longtime resident and businessman in Chelan, died Tuesday, June 5, 2001, at Lake Chelan Community Hospital, following an extended illness. Mack was born Nov. 24, 1911, at Peidmont, OK, the son of George M. and Lileta (Bell) Cox. At the age of nine months, he moved with his family to Chelan where he attended school. He graduated from Chelan High School in 1931. Following school, he worked for Chelan Box Mill. He then attended Wilson Business College in Seattle. He graduated in 1934, with a degree in accounting. He then worked at the courthouse in Wenatchee. On Sept. 4, 1937, he was married to Opal Clark. In 1941, he worked as an accountant for Wenatchee Beebe Orchard. In 1944, Mack and Wayne Anderson purchased Mather's Lumber Co. and renamed it Builders Lumber Co. In 1954, Mack bought out his partner. He continued in the business until 1984, when he retired. Mack was the last living charter member of the Chelan Eagles #2218, a past member of the Lions Club and a former city councilman. He is survived by one son, Larry and his wife Linda; a daughter, Sharon Tipton and her husband Rex; a sister, Wilma Veroske, all of Chelan; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Opal in 1998, four brothers and two sisters. A Memorial Service will be Saturday, June 9, 2001, at Chelan United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. with Donn Plew officiating. There will be no visitation. Private family interment at Fraternal Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Lake Chelan Community Hospital or the Lake Chelan Valley Ambulance Association. Services are under the direction of Precht Rose Chapel, Chelan.
