Alexander, 89, Kokomo, died 10:40 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2006, at North Woods Village Health Care Center. She was born Nov. 15, 1916, in Kokomo, a daughter of William and Mary E. (Degler) Grund. On June 5, 1938, she was united in marriage with Chester "Chet" Alexander in Indianapolis by the Rev. Ernest Salter. She was a 1937 graduate of Kokomo High School and worked for General Electric, Cuneo Press and Delco Radio. After a short time of employment, she returned to being a full-time wife and mother. She was a 50-year member of Beamer United Methodist Church, where she served as a youth camp counselor. For 23 years, in the summer, she would travel to Epworth Forest on Lake Webster to cook for and counsel youth. She loved all youth and was always happy to be with them. She was also a 54-year member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 89 and attended Morning Star Church. Madge had a happy marriage with her husband. She was always with him in all his endeavors. She loved her family very much and enjoyed doing things with them. Now it's graduation day and on to see the Lord. She is survived by her husband, Chester "Chet" Alexander; one son, Richard and wife Betty Alexander, Kokomo; one daughter, Sheila Schuchert, Front Royal, Va.; a daughter-in-law, Marilyn Alexander, Kokomo; a sister, Florence Spicer, Wabash; seven grandchildren, Paris and husband Kim Horner, Bryan and wife Sherrie Alexander, all of Kokomo, Amy Alexander, Hollywood, Calif., Mark and wife Leslie Routt, Chantilly, Va., Scott and wife Sherrie Routt, Gainesville, Va., Ryan Routt, Ottawa, Canada, and Todd and wife Beth Routt, Pinner Middx, England; and 10 great-grandchildren, Chad and Madison Alexander, Kokomo, Joshua and Bryan Routt, Gainesville, Va., Alex, Matthew and Christopher Routt, Chantilly, Va., Savanna, Luke and Cassidy Routt, Pinner Middx, England. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Roger Alexander; one sister; and four brothers. Services are 10 a.m. Saturday at Ellers Mortuary Webster Street Chapel, 3400 S. Webster St., with Pastor Greg Reed officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the mortuary with an Order of Eastern Star service beginning at 6:45 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Association. Envelopes will be available at the mortuary.
