Description	:	Madison Washington Lorick, 85, of Irmo, South Carolina, died in the morning of August 4, 1958 in the Lowman Home at White Rock, South Carolina. He was a lifelong resident of Irmo where he was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Mr. Lorick was also a member of the Masons. Read More	Madison Washington Lorick, 85, of Irmo, South Carolina, died in the morning of August 4, 1958 in the Lowman Home at White Rock, South Carolina. He was a lifelong resident of Irmo where he was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Mr. Lorick was also a member of the Masons. He was the Sons of the late William Washington and Mildred Bookman Lorick. Survivors include three brothers, Jacob Eugene Lorick and William Henry Lorick, both of Irmo and Herbert Calhoun Lorick of Augusta, Georgia; a sister Mrs. Lillian Maude Lorick-Lorick of Columbia; also a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held at 5 o'clock this Tuesday afternoon form the Bethlehem Lutheran Church conducted by the Rev. Frank Lavaugen Keisler and the Rev. L. E. Black-Welder, D.D.. Interment will follow in the churchyard. Active pallbearers will be William Wade Lorick, Jr., John (Johnnie) Robert Lorick, Forrest William Lorick, Omerle Wade Lorick, John Eugene (Gene) Norris, Jr., and Albert Joseph Lorick. Honorary pallbearers will be the Council of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church. All pallbearers will meet at the church at 4:50 this afternoon. The body will remain at the Thompson Funeral Home until 4 o'clock and then it will be taken to the church to remain until time of service. Published in The State Newspaper, Columbia, SC on August 5, 1958. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Note by Robert Lorick: Madison Washington Lorick (Uncle Matty), one of the more colorful family members, died a bachelor. Uncle Matty was sort of a root doctor and credited with successfully curing several individuals different ailments in the Irmo area. As a story goes, Mr. Matty ask this man to go down on the Broad River to get his coat. It was in the woods where Mr. Matty had been camped. The man did as Mr. Matty had asked. When Mr. Matty got his coat he ask if he had looked inside the coat pocket. The man said, "NO". Then Mr. Matty said, "you should have'" He told the man that there was $500.00 dollars in that coat pocket and it would have been his if he only had gotten it out. Madison Washington Lorick (Uncle Matty) was named after his mother's brother, Madison (Matty) Bookman, and the middle name of his father, William Washington Lorick. Uncle Matty was a Mason in a Masonic Lodge in Columbia, SC. He was living at 814 Pulask Street in Columbia, South Carolina and was listed in the 1925 City Director as president of the Columbia Coffin and Casket Company in Cayce, SC
