Description	:	Madonna Louise Padgett, 89, Kokomo, passed away at 12:02 p.m. Saturday, August 26, 2017, at her home with family around her. She was born November 12, 1927, in Kokomo, to Fredrick and Helen (Vandenbosh) Emmerling. On January 22, 1949, she married Dale Padgett, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Kokomo, and he preceded her in death on January 14, 1990. Madonna graduated from Kokomo High School in 1945 and from the Good Samaritan-Holy Cross School of Nursing in 1948. She was born November 12, 1927, in Kokomo, to Fredrick and Helen (Vandenbosh) Emmerling. On January 22, 1949, she married Dale Padgett, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Kokomo, and he preceded her in death on January 14, 1990. Madonna graduated from Kokomo High School in 1945 and from the Good Samaritan-Holy Cross School of Nursing in 1948. She worked in private duty nursing, as in-service coordinator at St. Joseph Hospital and as an industrial nurse at Haynes Stellite and Chrysler Corporation, retiring in 1987. She was also owner of The Madonna Shop which sold religious items. She was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church where she sang in the choir for 30 years. She was also a member of the Altar Rosary Society, the Daughters of Isabella, the Kokomo Senior Citizens Center, the Kokomo Civic Theater, the Kokomo Swinging Square Dance Club and Joyful Sounds, a senior citizens group. She is survived by her children, Judith E. Riley, Joanna M. (Lloyd) Schmidt, Mary K. (Paul) Cothern, Stephen J. (Melissa) Padgett, and Loretta J. Beck; thirteen grandchildren, Anne Dillman, Katherine Troyer, Kevin Riley, Bryan (Rudy) Padgett, Erin (Marcus) Shephard, Sarah (Jamel) Wright, Joshua (Alicia) Cothern, Nicole (Cary) Mawbey, Vincent Cothern, Kyle Cothern, Elizabeth Padgett, Taylor Schmidt and James Beck; 22 great-grandchildren, Megan Dillman, Christopher Dillman, Shelby Troyer, Ashley Riley, Brooke Riley, Andrew Shephard, Addyson Shephard, Alexander Shephard, Jaylen Wright, Kyah Wright, Quincy Wright, Talia Wright, Ava Cothern, Allie Cothern, Justin Cothern, Audrey Cothern, Luke Mawbey, Gabriella Mawbey, Aiden Mawbey, Caleb Mawbey, Leo Mawbey and Robert Chase-Schmidt; one great-great-grandchild, Jaxson Dillman; sister, Ann (Glenard) Hogue; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, Fredrick Emmerling and Helen Etchison; step-father, Wilbur Etchison; son & daughter-in-law, David & Colleen Padgett; son-in-law, Michael Riley; grandson-in-law, Joseph Dillman; and brother, Arthur Emmerling. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Julie Maggard, hospice nurse from St. Vincent At Home, the staff at St. Vincent 4th Floor Progressive Care, and Candy, mom’s singing aide—bless you. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, September 1, 2017, at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 3155 S. 200 W., Kokomo, with Rev. Fr. Matthew Arbuckle the celebrant. Burial will follow in Kokomo Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, 1315 W. Lincoln Rd., Kokomo, where the rosary will follow Nurse’s Honors at 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Madonna’s memory to St. Joan of Arc and Patrick School.
