Description	:	Mae J. Long, 95, of Asheville passed away at her home on Thursday April 24, 2014. She was a native of Taylors, South Carolina, who resided in Asheville from 1950 to 1972 and again from 1984 until her death. Mae was a member of First Baptist Church for her entire residency in Asheville and belonged to the Dorcas Sunday School Class there until her death, whose members she cherished among her many friends. Long, 95, of Asheville passed away at her home on Thursday April 24, 2014. She was a native of Taylors, South Carolina, who resided in Asheville from 1950 to 1972 and again from 1984 until her death. Mae was a member of First Baptist Church for her entire residency in Asheville and belonged to the Dorcas Sunday School Class there until her death, whose members she cherished among her many friends. In addition to visiting with family and friends, Mae enjoyed reading, bridge, making biscuits, and working at the polls on election days, which she only gave up after a hip operation at age 85. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert B. Long, Sr., to whom she was married for 65 years. She also was preceded in death by her parents Leonard Austin Jones and Minnie Phillips Jones, as well as her five siblings, Ethel Jones, Lucille Hudson, Willie A. Jones, Laura Zakie, and Alvin H. Jones. Mae is survived by her children, Robert B. Long, Jr. (Judy) of Asheville, Col. John E. Long, USAF (RET) (Kathleen) of Alexandria, Va., and Judy J. Long of Asheville and Athens, Ga. She is also survived by five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews, all of whom she particularly enjoyed seeing. The family wishes to thank Care Partners and Care Partners Physical Therapist Michael Hand for the beyond the call care and attention given their loved one over the last 8 months. The family will receive friends at Morris Funeral Home, 304 Merrimon Avenue, on Saturday, April 26, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the Chapel at Taylors First Baptist Church in Taylors, South Carolina at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 27, 2014, with the Rev. Eddie Morgan of Asheville officiating. Interment in the Church Cemetery to be with her husband and parents will immediately follow the service.
