Magdalena Schock, daughter of Katherina (Klipfel) and John Schock, was born July 30, 1909 in McIntosh County near Ashley, ND. This is where she was raised and attended rural schools. She married John Funk at Marienberg Lutheran Church near Ashley on January 30, 1930. They first settled on a farmstead NE of Eureka near the state line. In 1945 they purchased and moved to a farm 3 miles east and 2 miles south of Eureka. John farmed and operated a carpentry business, with Maggie active in both ventures. In 1955, they moved into Eureka. From 1958 until there retirement in 1987, John and Maggie ran a custom combining business. John died March 29, 1993 and since April 1997, Maggie has lived at the Avera Eureka Healthcare Center. She was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church and the lady's group. She enjoyed quilting at the Eureka Senior Center. She also enjoyed crocheting, gardening, doing yardwork, playing piano, singing, and mingling with people. Maggie's family warmly recalls the baking she did for them and they remember her as a hard worker. Survivors include 1 son Allen Funk of Bath, SD; 3 daughters-Olivia (Adolph) Bendewald of Aberdeen, SD, LaRue (Eugene) Stokes of Sioux City, Iowa; and Shirley (Elroy) Hoff of Eureka; 1 sister Viola Dammel of Pearsall, TX; 9 Grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, John, her father, John, on July 1, 1962, her mother, Katherina, on August 25, 1966, 3 brothers (Julius, Christian, and Fred Schock), 2 sisters (Lydia Gross and Rose Funk), 1 granddaughter, and 1 great granddaughter. Casketbearers will be Gerald Bendewald, Dale Bendewald, and Zachary and Douglas Wanttie of Aberdeen, Darrick Funk of Sioux Falls, SD, and Neal Stokes of Sioux City. Lien-Straub Funeral Home, Eureka,is in charge of arrangements.
