Birdie was born on Nov. 14, 1926, in Cooperstown Township, Ill., to John Elmer and Louise Mae (Falter) Osborninois. Birdie was preceded in death by her husband, Everet Ross ,and daughters, Judy Martin, Carol Gilliland and Tina Ross. Survivors are: daughters and sons-in-law, Wanda and Jerry Johnson of Doniphan and Cathi and Eugene Scarborough of Grand Island; 14 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends. Read More	Maggie "Birdie" Ross, 84, of St. Paul died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2011, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island. Birdie was born on Nov. 14, 1926, in Cooperstown Township, Ill., to John Elmer and Louise Mae (Falter) Osborninois. Birdie was preceded in death by her husband, Everet Ross ,and daughters, Judy Martin, Carol Gilliland and Tina Ross. Survivors are: daughters and sons-in-law, Wanda and Jerry Johnson of Doniphan and Cathi and Eugene Scarborough of Grand Island; 14 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends. Birdie attended school in Beebe, Ark., Watson, Mo., and then at Shubert, Neb., where she graduated. Birdie was united in marriage to Howard Cleveland Ham on March 7, 1946, in Hiawatha, Kan. The couple lived in several communities in Iowa and Nebraska. She was united in marriage to Everet Ross in 1963. The couple moved to a farm near St. Paul. She worked at the Ordinance Plant and at the VA Hospital in Grand Island. Birdie loved people and she help take care of elderly people in a nursing home and then in the people's home. She also cooked for Dorothy Lynch in St. Paul. Birdie loved being surrounded by her children and grandchildren and to watch them grow into adulthood. She spent quality time with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed crocheting, gardening and her pets. She was raised and baptized at United Methodist Church. Birdie was also preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Harry, Thurlo and Kenneth Osborn. Published Grand Island Independent 2/26/2011
