Description	:	Death Notice from The Brown County World published April 8, 1904, contributed by Paula Segrest 3/3/2011: "Mrs. Mahala Scott, aged 74, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W.M. Riedel, near White Hall, Tuesday, April 5. Paralysis was the cause of her death. The funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the house, conducted by Rev. J.S. Miller. Burial was made in Mount Hope Cemetery. Mrs. Scott was born in Ohio in 1829 and was one of the early residents of Brown County. She is survived by four children." Biography Based on Family Records and Research: Mahala Elizabeth Myers, daughter of John H Myers and Nancy Warner, born August 4, 1829 in Licking County Ohio, the oldest of six known children. Married Benjamin Johnson "BJ" Scott in Lima Township, Licking, Ohio about 1845. The Family migrated to Tazewell County Illinois in late 1850's, then on to Richardson County Nebraska in the late mid 1860's, and finally settling in Brown County, Kansas in the late 1870's. While Mahala remained in Brown County to manage the family farm, Benjamin Scott left Kansas for Wyoming in 1883 to ranch and sheep herd in the mountains of Johnson County. Fifteen years later, their son, Albert Sylvester Scott and his family followed their father to Wyoming. Mahala Elizabeth Myers Scott filed for Dissolution of Marriage from Benjamin Johnson 'BJ' Scott due to Desertion on 20 Aug 1891 and 3 Oct 1891 notice in papers. Their Divorce was granted 11 Dec 1891 in Hiawatha, Brown County, Kansas, USA Benjamin Jonson "BJ" Scott died at Buffalo, Johnson County, Wyoming July 18, 1907 and is buried at Willow Grove Cemetery next to son, Albert Sylvester Scott who died in 1923. Mahala continued to live in the Hiawatha area after Benjamin went to Wyoming, and their Divorce. In her later years she lived with daughter Ida (Mrs. Barney Clement) in Powhattan and with daughter Ada (Mrs. William M. Riedel) near White Hall, where she died on April 5, 1904.
