Orangeburg, March 1-Special: Major Watson A. O'Cain died at his home, near Jamison, and about five miles from this city, last night after a long illness, at the age of 76 years. About two years ago Major O'Cain met with an accident, whereby he was very badly injured in one leg and had been, therefore, confined to his home practically ever since. Major O'Cain was a Confederate Veteran. When (Hagood's) 1st South Carolina Regiment was formed, at the beginning of the war, he was elected its major and saw some service, but owing to his election to the office of ordinary (Judge of Probate) for this county, he returned home and continued in this office for several years. He was a graduate of the South Carolina College and was admitted to the bar, but did not pursue the practice of the law to any considerable extent, but went on his farm after the war, where he has ever since resided. Major O'Cain was a man of broad intelligence and was a constant reader, particularly of current topics, whereby he kept at all times well posted upon the matters of interest and importance to State and nation. Surviving the deceased are his widow, three daughters and four sons, all grown. Maj. O'Cain was 76...a graduate of South Carolina College and practiced law in this city many years ago. He once held the office of Ordinary of Orangeburg County, which office was similar to that of Judge of Probate...laid to rest from the Methodist church at Jamison.
