Description	:	Charles Frederick Holly Charles Frederick Holly was born in Cedar Township, Cherokee County, August 2, 1879, and was killed in an auto accident north of Iowa Falls on August 28 at the age of 71 years and 26 days. He was the son of W. DF and Mahala (Lantz) Holly. He grew to manhood and received his education in Cherokee county. Read More	Charles Frederick Holly Charles Frederick Holly was born in Cedar Township, Cherokee County, August 2, 1879, and was killed in an auto accident north of Iowa Falls on August 28 at the age of 71 years and 26 days. He was the son of W. DF and Mahala (Lantz) Holly. He grew to manhood and received his education in Cherokee county. At the age of 17 he enlisted in the army, spending 5 1/2 years in the Philippines and the Boxer Rebellion in China. After the Spanish American War he again served his country during World War I, attaining the rank of Major. In 1927 he was appointed deputy United States Marshal at Sioux City, which position he held until 1935 when he was appointed United State Probation officer for the norther district. He retired September 30, 1946. Since then he spent his winters in California and his summers in Cherokee. Mr. Holly was united in marriage at Sioux City in 1926 to Louisa Seluver. She died in January, 1943. He was a member of the American Legion, Spanish War Veterans and the Masonic Lodge of Sioux City. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Will and Frank, and by three sisters, Edna, Grace, and Dora. Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Alice Burke of Vancouver, British Columbia and Mrs. Eva Mitchell, Weyburn, Saskatchewan, Canada; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held September 1 at the Boothby funeral home, Rev. J.H. Castle of Milford, a former army chaplain, officiating. Burial was in Cedar Cemetery with Masonic rites, followed by the Spanish American veterans' ritual given by Captain Harry Gooch of Sioux City. V.F.W. furnished the pallbearers and colors and the American Legion, colors and firing squad. Taps were sounded as he was laid to rest. Among out-of-town relatives and friends attending his rites were: Mr. and Mrs. T.H. Mitchell, Mr. and Mrs. Ormand Mitchell and daughter of Weyburn, Canada; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Haolly, Lucille, Duffy, Mr. and Mrs. Andersen, U.S. probation officer for northwest Iowa, all of Waterloo. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Duffy, Sr., Mr. and Mrs. Joe Duffy, Jr., Garretson, South Dakota, Mrs. Set Warner, Sioux City; Irvin Little, Montevideo, Minnesota; Harry Gooch, C.A. Hoyt, John A.
