Read More	Edward Wheeler HASELDEN, III COLUMBIA -- A memorial service for Edward Wheeler HASELDEN, III, 98, will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral. The family will receive friends at the church following the service. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family. Mr. HASELDEN died Sunday, September 4, 2005. Born June 10, 1907, in Georgetown, he was the son of the late Edward Wheeler HASELDEN, Jr. and Annie (MONTGOMERY) HASELDEN. He entered The Citadel Class of 1930. Due to a depression he was unable to graduate with his class. However, he later received an honorary doctorate from his Alma Mater in 1999. In the 1930's, he managed the Columbia Hotel for the Barringer Hotel chain. When World War II began, Mr. HASELDEN volunteered in the Army Air Corps, where he achieved the rank of major. While in the service, he was assigned to several posts in the United States before going overseas. After the war, Mr. HASELDEN became a vice president of McKesson Corporation, where his integrity and leadership skills distinguished him as an outstanding businessman. Mr. HASELDEN served on the board of the First National Bank of South Carolina for many years. A member of the Chamber of Commerce, he served as a board member of the Carolina Children's Home, a member of the Taylor Society of the Columbia Art Museum, and a founding member of the Summit Club. Mr. HASELDEN was a long time member of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral. He was a member of the Palmetto Club, Forest Lake Club, the Columbia Cotillion, and the Pine Tree Hunt Club. His warm and generous nature made him an instant friend to all who met him. He was an avid outdoorsman and nothing thrilled him more than to take his friends and family quail hunting, which he did well into his nineties. Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Vesta (MURRAY) HASELDEN; son, Dr. Edward HASELDEN, Jr. [VI] and his wife, Kitty, of Columbia; daughter, Anne (HASELDON) FOSTER and her husband, John, of Columbia; son-in-law, Tom CHEVES, his wife, Donna, and their son, Thomas, of Greenville; grandchildren, Murray THOMPSON and her husband, Robert, of Greenville, William HASELDEN and his wife, Lane, of Columbia, Foster HASELDEN of Columbia, Audrey WALTER and her husband, Matt, of Danville, Ky., Vesta FOSTER of Columbia, and Isabel FOSTER of Columbia; great-grandchildren, McCuen THOMPSON, Robert THOMPSON, and Sarah HASELDEN; and his many devoted and loving caregivers. He was predeceased by his daughter, Min Murray (HASELDEN) CHEVES; and his grandson, Edward Wheeler HASELDEN, V.
