| Description | : | He entered the Confederate Army in April of 1861 with company A of Montague's Battalion. Twice wounded, he served to the end of the war. Promoted to first lieutenant, he was later commissioned major of the 53rd Virginia Infantry in Pickett's Division. With them, he was at Bethel, Seven Pines, Malvern Hill, Second Manassas, Fredericksburg, Gettysburg, Petersburg, Sailor's Creek and Five Forks. After the war, he farmed in Halifax. In 1869 he was elected high sheriff of the county, a position he retained until 1887. He dealt extensively in tobacco, owning the Edmondson Warehouse and Flagg Warehouse of South Boston....
