Army, retired, died Friday morning, May 3, at a Bremerton hospital. His home was on Bainbridge Island. Born in Fairfax, Major Callaham had lived there and in Buckley, then later in Tenino with his family. He was the brother of Mrs. Ella Mae (Henry) Knapp of Buckley. Major Callaham joined the U. S. Army in 1923 at the age of 18 and served for twenty years. Upon his discharge in 1943 as a Master Sergeant, he accepted a direct commission as a First Lieutenant, retiring ten years later with the rank of Major. During his 30 years' service he had been based in Panama, Hawaii, Korea, and Japan. Following his retirement he worked for a number of years at Fort Lewis. He moved last October from Tacoma to Bainbridge Island. He was a member of Webb Lodge 166, F&AM, Augusta, Georgia; Scottish Rite bodies in the same city, and Faith Chapter 255, OES, Tacoma. Surviving him, in addition to Mrs. Knapp, are his wife, Margaret, and son, George, and daughter, Mrs. Joan B. Witham, all of Bainbridge Island; another son, Howard, with the U. S. Army in Korea; a second sister, Mrs. Lois Jean Davidson of Kellogg, Idaho, and four brothers, Harold of Eatonville, Clyde of Vancouver, Washington, William R. of Auburn, and Lee of Klamath Falls, Oregon.
