Description	:	Son of Richard and Sabra Tyson (daughter Thomas and Sabra Mason Tyson) Dudley, husband of Ann Newberry. Major is his first name, not a title. He was named after Major Tyson, nephew of Thomas Tyson (father of Sabra Tyson Dudley, Major Richard's mother.) "Marlboro District was formed in 1785, that's when the first Courthouse was built nearby in the Carlilse community, so this date coincides with the new construction there. There are early settler graves there, my Great, Great, Great Grandfather Major Richard Dudley, a doctor, died in 1823 and was buried there [Sawmill Baptist Church].... But he was disinterred later (abt 1881), and moved to what is now known as Evergreen Cemetery in Bennettsville. His widow, Ann Newberry Dudley, likely bought the first lot sold in Bennettsville (from her son-in-law Alexander R. Brown) and son George Dudley built the Dudley Hotel, later renamed the Marlborough Inn, katy-cornered across from the new Robert Mills designed Courthouse. The sawmill near Carlilse was later known as Dudley's sawmill, purchased by son Col. C. W. Dudley, it dated back to the creation of the Carlilse community in the late 1780's. Richard and Ann moved to Carlisle in 1823, just a few months before his death, from Darlington Courthouse square. They moved to Darlington in 1819 from Fayetteville, N.
