He was born in Hunters Lodge, Annapolis Co., and was a son of the late Obediah and Gladys (Sarty) Acker. He was a veteran of the Second World War and had seen action in Italy while serving overseas with the Canadian Army. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and the France and Germany Star. He was a member of Royal Canadian Legion, Somme Branch 31, Dartmouth. He was a former member of the Masonic Cornwallis Lodge 95. Malcolm was a life member of the Our Saviour?s Lutheran Church in Dartmouth, where he sang in the choir and worked with devotion for many years. He worked as a service manager at Tanner Chrysler for many years and retired as divisional chief of the mechanical division of Dartmouth Fire Station after 22 years. He is survived by his wife, Muriel (Slaunwhite). He was a kind and loving husband for 46 years. Also surviving are stepson, Gary Newcombe and wife Diane, Halifax; step-grandchildren, Terry, Dartmouth; Tina, Halifax; brother, Lester and wife Marion, Springfield; sister, Agnes (Mrs. Douglas Durling), Dartmouth. Malcolm was predeceased by his brother, Merlin. Visitation will be in J. Albert Walker Funeral Home, 307 Prince Albert Rd., Dartmouth, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today. Funeral service will be held Sunday at 1 p.m., in Our Saviour?s Lutheran Church, 255 Portland St., Dartmouth, Pastor Dick Bieber and Pastor Savonte Olson officiating, followed by a reception. Interment will be in Pleasant Point Cemetery, Musquodoboit Harbour. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to Our Saviour?s Lutheran Church, 255 Portland St. Dartmouth, NS B2Y 1J8.
