Description	:	Funeral rites for Mrs. Mallissa Drake of Kellogg were held yesterday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Christian church in Kellogg and burial was in Our Silent City. The services were conducted by the Rev. A. V. Hart of Des Moines. Mrs. Drake died at her home in Kellogg on Sunday evening following several months illness. Music was furnished by a quartet composed of Mrs. M. I. Shaw, Mrs. C. W. Woodward, R. C. Birchard and T. L. Birchard accompanied on the piano by Miss Rhoda Rose. The quartet sang three selections including, “Abide With Me,” “Nearer My God to Thee” and “Home of the Soul.” Pallbearers were M. C. Williams, C. W. Woodward, A. J. Lepard, Hugh Thorp, Dr. F. S. Hill and P. E. Coon. The services were conducted at the grave by the members of the O. E. S. of Kellogg. Mallissa Anne Jones was born in Morrow County, Ohio, Jan. 19, 1855. She made her home with her grandparents until she was 18 years old when she came to Iowa and lived at the home of her uncle, Anthony Jones near Newton. She was united in marriage to James Drake, on March 18, 1875 and to this union three children were born, two of whom survives. She and her husband made their home on a farm west of Newton and later they moved to a farm south of Kellogg where they resided until 1886 when they moved to Kellogg where they have lived for the last 43 years. Mrs. Drake is a charter member of the Order of Eastern Star lodge of Kellogg, a member of the O.E.S. club, of the Ladies’ Cemetery association, of which she has served as president for number of years and is a member of the Ladies’ Aid society of the Kellogg Christian church. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Fred Lemke and one son, George Drake and four grandchildren. She is also survived by one half–sister, Mrs. Jeanette Griffith of Salem, O. Mr. Drake died June 22, 1928, and a daughter Inez Vivian, died at the age of three years. Source: Newton Daily News; August 22, 1929, page 10
