Mamie, the daughter of Christoffer and Sophie Madsen Bertelsen was born Jan 12, 1982 [sic, should be 1892] in Menomominee, MI and died Feb. 24, 1996 at the Friendship Home in Audubon. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. After her father's death they moved to Oakfield, near Brayton when Mamie was five years old. She attended rural schools near Oakfield then worked for several families and also attended dressmaker's school in Exira. On July 19, 1914 she was united in marriage to Sherman Lang at the Methodist Minister's home in Sac City. They lived in Audubon most of their married life. Sherman died July 26, 1958. Mamie baby-sat for many families and maintained her home until she became a resident of the Friendship Home on April 17, 1981. She was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Audubon. She was a charter member of the Ladies Aid Society (Helping Hand) and had served as treasurer. Preceding her in addition to her husband: were infant twins: James Lang and Jane Lang; her parents; her sisters: Sena Sambeck and Christena Sanbeck; her brother, John Bertelsen; her sisters-in-law; Maye Martinsen, Myrtle Detwiler, Ethel Lang and Ruby Land and her brothers-in-law Victor Land and Earl Lang. Survivors include her daughters: Doris Woodling and Roseanna Pasco, both of Las Vegas, NV; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter; her sisters-in-law: Florence Law and Betty Lang, both of Audubon; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
