Davis of Marion, died at the home of her son-in-law, Dr. H. O. DuBose, early Sunday morning of an ailment of the heart. Born at Morven, Anson County, North Carolina, October 11, 1878, Mrs. Davis, daughter of William Preston and Elizabeth Clarke Smith, received her early education at Louisville College, Louisburg, NC, and was married to Shepherd U. Read More	Daughter of William Preston and Elizabeth Helen Clark Smith, wife of Shepherd Upham Davis. ANDREWS - Mrs. Mamie Smith Davis, widow of S. U. Davis of Marion, died at the home of her son-in-law, Dr. H. O. DuBose, early Sunday morning of an ailment of the heart. Born at Morven, Anson County, North Carolina, October 11, 1878, Mrs. Davis, daughter of William Preston and Elizabeth Clarke Smith, received her early education at Louisville College, Louisburg, NC, and was married to Shepherd U. Davis in July 1900. with whom she lived with in Eulonia, Marion County, until his death in 1915. In 1928 she became associated with Florida State College for Women in Tallahassee. A few weeks ago her health became impaired, and at the insistence of her daughters, she was prevailed upon to give up her work temporarily and visit with them. During the past two weeks she had been under the care of Dr. DuBose. During her entire life Mrs. Davis was actively interested in the church and its associate organizations and gave fully of her time and wealth of ability towards furthering the cause of Christian endeavor. Surviving are her four step-children, Mrs. D. O. DuBose and Mrs. J. R. Thompson, both of Andrews, Mrs. L. A. Perry of Kingstree and Alvah Davis of Birmingham; her own six children, Mrs. W. A. Stilley Jr. of Conway, Mrs. W. A. Britton of Thomasville, Ga., Miss Lorine Davis of Miami, Fla., Orion Woods Davis of Tavares, Fla., Francis Clarke Davis of Cincinnati, Ohio and Oliver Preston Davis of Gainesville, Fla.; two sisters, Mrs. R. W. McMillan of Marion and Miss Annie Louise Smith of Winston-Salem; and two brothers, Thomas Preston Smith and Alvin Munsey Smith, both of Winter Haven, Fla. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Dr. W. S. Dorset of Baptist Church at Andrews. Interment was in the Davis burial ground at Palmer schoolhouse at Marion County.
