Burial will follow at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 19, 2010, at the Mauer–Johnson Funeral Home of Le Mars. The family will be present 5-7 p.m., with a prayer service scheduled for 7:00 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral on Wednesday. Mamie Louise Pech was born on April 1, 1903 in Elgin Township, Plymouth County, Iowa, one of 9 children born to William and Mary (Piepenburg) Utech. She attended country school Elgin #8 near her home on a farm north of Le Mars. She was confirmed in the Methodist faith at the Seney United Methodist Church on April 23, 1916. Growing up, Mamie assisted her parents and siblings with farming. On January 18, 1924, Mamie and Edward H. Pech eloped and were united in marriage in the church parsonage. Following their marriage, Mamie joined the Hildreth Methodist Church in Le Mars. The couple made their home on a farm in Elgin Township. Together they farmed and raised their daughter Lois. In early years Mamie played the steel guitar and Ed played the fiddle at neighborhood barn dances. Mamie also played the piano and the organ. In 1970 Mamie and Ed retired and traveled to nearly all of the 50 United States, including Hawaii. Ed passed away on August 26, 1986, following 62 years of marriage. Mamie moved to Le Mars, and later to the Plymouth Manor Care Center. Mamie was a member of the United Methodist Church of Le Mars. She often helped in the kitchen and participated in Martha Circle and Christian Builders Sunday School class. She enjoyed many types of handwork, including making flowers, flower arranging, crocheting, knitting, felt work, sewing, and quilting, and she made numerous laprobes for the annual In-gathering. She also made numerous wall hangings and jewelry boxes she took to shows and displayed in her home. Mamie was well known for her cooking and loved to entertain her family and friends. Mamie will be lovingly remembered by her daughter and her husband, Lois and Harry Pausch of Le Mars; 4 granddaughters, Diane (Joe) Ashmore of Le Mars, Cindy Forcier-Clark of Akron, IA, Sheila (Ray) Rodgers of Le Mars, and Janet Meyer of Le Mars; 8 great-grandchildren, Mitzi (Ryan) Rozeboom of Centerville, SD, Daniel Mai of Le Mars, Brandon (Lisa) Forcier of Oran, IA, Brian Forcier of Akron, IA, Josey Meyer of Le Mars, and Nicole, Shelby, and Raymond Rodgers, all of Le Mars; 7 great-great-grandchildren, Alexis Rodgers of Le Mars, Bryce and Ashlynn Rozeboom of Centerville, and Drake, Eli, Madison Forcier, and Gavin Duffy all of Oran; 4 step-great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Mamie was preceded in death by her parents; husband Edward; an infant brother, Elmer; sisters, Margaret Ioos and Lillian Pech; and brothers, Frank, Wesley, Edward, Lawrence, and Raymond.
