Description	:	Mandeville Q. Carter was the third of six children born to Asahel and Catherine Horn Carter. The family moved from Virginia to Franklin County, Ohio where Mandeville was born in 1827. After moving to Logan County, Ohio in 1836, the family settled in Smith Township, Whitley County, Indiana in 1842. Mandeville first married Claria (Clara/Clarisa) M. Ross on 27 December 1855 in Fort Wayne, Allen County, Indiana. They had two children who died at two years of age: Havanna and Harry. The family moved from Virginia to Franklin County, Ohio where Mandeville was born in 1827. After moving to Logan County, Ohio in 1836, the family settled in Smith Township, Whitley County, Indiana in 1842. Mandeville first married Claria (Clara/Clarisa) M. Ross on 27 December 1855 in Fort Wayne, Allen County, Indiana. They had two children who died at two years of age: Havanna and Harry. When their youngest child, a daughter, Emma, was not quite three, Claria passed away in September 1880. Emma went to live with her aunt, Elmira Carter Garrison and her uncle, James Garrison. On 25 December 1889, Mandeville married Ruth Smith in Whitley County, Indiana (Book 4:474). Ruth and Mandeville were living together during the 1900 census in Cleveland Township, Whitley County, Indiana. Mandeville, who died on 7 January 1904 at the home of one of his sons in Fort Wayne, Indiana, was buried next to his first wife, Claria, in Blue River Cemetery. At the time of his death, he was survived by his second wife, Ruth Carter, as well as the following children: John Carter, Charles W. Carter, Alfred Carter and Benjamin F. Carter, all of Fort Wayne; Mrs. E. W. Brundige, New Orleans, and Miss Emma Carter of Whitley County [From the obituary of Mandeville Q.
